How should a buyer compare feed mill suppliers?
Compare suppliers against one identical scope document, then normalise the responses: scope boundaries and exclusions, capacity guarantees and test conditions, specific energy consumption, quality commitments such as pellet durability or water stability, spare parts and service coverage, local support and installed references. Price is compared last, because a lower price with a narrower scope is not a lower cost.

Most cost overruns in feed projects are decided at supplier selection, not during construction. A proposal that excludes civil works, steam generation, electrical distribution or commissioning support will always look cheaper until those lines reappear later.

Capacity guarantees and performance tests
A capacity figure without a test protocol is marketing. The contract should state the recipe, moisture, pellet size, ambient conditions, measurement period and remedy if the guarantee is missed.
Energy consumption
Ask for kWh per tonne by stage at guaranteed capacity, and for thermal energy per tonne where drying is involved. Over a plant's life these figures often outweigh the initial price difference between suppliers.
Pellet durability and water stability
Both must be tied to a named test method and a defined product. Otherwise two suppliers can quote the same number while measuring different things.

- Remote diagnostics and software support terms
Local support
Local presence changes downtime economics more than a small price difference. Verify whether support is a genuine local office, an agent, or a fly-in engineer with visa and lead-time implications.
References and installed base
Ask for references at comparable capacity, process type and climate, and contact them. An installed base in a different feed segment tells you little about performance on your product range.
