Certifications (must-have)
GMP+ FSA (Europe/global), FAMI-QS (feed additives/premix), ISO 22000 (food safety systems), plus origin-specific: SFDA (KSA), GACC (China), USDA/FSVP (US). Verify certificate numbers with the issuing body.
Audit history
Request the last three third-party audit reports (SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek). Look for repeat findings, not just current status.
Financial due diligence
Two years of audited financials, D&B credit score, court judgments search. A supplier under working-capital stress is a delivery risk regardless of price.
Traceability & CoA
Batch-level Certificate of Analysis for every shipment, retained samples for 6+ months, HACCP flowchart with critical control points documented.
Reference calls
Two active buyers in your region who have taken material in the last 6 months. Ask specifically about consistency and complaint handling.
Contractual protections
Force majeure with defined events; quality tolerances with price adjustment; recall protocol; product liability insurance minimum USD 5M.
