Feed mill equipment sourcing
How to source feed mill equipment: define the scope by tonnes per hour, compare like-for-like quotations, and choose between manufacturer-direct and managed sourcing.
Short answer · reviewed September 2026
How do you source feed mill equipment?
Feed mill equipment sourcing starts with a defined scope — capacity in tonnes per hour, species and feed form, and the process sections included — so every supplier quotes the same thing. FeedMatch is an independent, supplier-neutral procurement service: a person reviews each buyer brief, structures it into a comparable RFQ, and presents supplier responses side by side. FeedMatch does not manufacture equipment and publishes no price benchmarks.
Define the scope before you ask for prices
Suppliers can only quote comparably when the brief is fixed. State the nameplate capacity in tonnes per hour, the species and feed forms (mash, pellet, extruded), the raw materials you will run, and which process sections are included: intake and storage, grinding, dosing and mixing, pelleting or extrusion, cooling, and bagging or bulk loadout.
A brief that says '10 t/h poultry pellet line, broiler finisher, maize and soybean meal base, intake to bagging' gets quotations you can compare. A brief that says 'feed mill' gets quotations you cannot.
What a comparable quotation must state
- Nameplate capacity in t/h and the recipe assumptions behind it
- Equipment list per process section with model, motor power and materials of construction
- Scope boundaries: what is included, what is excluded, and what is buyer-supplied
- Delivery terms, lead time, and erection and commissioning responsibilities
- Warranty, spare parts supply and service coverage in your country
- Payment terms and validity period of the offer
Manufacturer-direct vs managed sourcing
Buying manufacturer-direct gives you a direct commercial relationship and works well when you have in-house engineering capacity to specify, compare and supervise. Managed sourcing adds an independent layer that structures the brief, collects multiple offers, normalises them to the same scope, and flags gaps — useful when the team is small or the project is cross-border.
Neither route guarantees an outcome. The quality of the result depends on the clarity of the scope and the discipline of the comparison, not on the channel.
Cost drivers by capacity band
Installed cost rises with capacity, but not linearly: automation level, storage tonnage, civil works and the process route (mash vs pellet vs extrusion) move the total as much as the t/h figure. For itemised capex and opex bands by mill size, see the feed mill cost per tonne guide, and use the CAPEX estimator with your own rates — FeedMatch publishes no price benchmarks.
