How buyers define requirements
- State the intended species and inclusion rate — a 46% protein dehulled meal and a 44% hulled meal are not interchangeable in a least-cost formula.
- Fix the moisture basis for every quality figure (as-is vs 12% moisture) before you compare two offers.
- Decide whether you require non-GM / identity-preserved material, and accept that this narrows the origin list and carries a premium.
- Set the delivery window, tolerance (typically ±5% or ±10% on quantity) and who declares the vessel or truck schedule.
- Define the acceptance point: works, load port, discharge port or delivered warehouse. Quality risk transfers with it.
