Assumptions

  • Broiler: total feed = survivors × target weight × FCR, plus 40% of intake for mortality-adjusted birds.
  • Layer: total feed = average hens × g/hen/day × production days.
  • Scenario adjusts FCR: conservative +0.10, optimistic −0.05.
  • Phase split and weekly curve are indicative; validate against your strain program before procurement.

FAQ

How accurate is this calculator?

Estimates are directional (±5–10%) based on FCR, target weight and mortality. Real feed use varies by strain, climate, feed quality and health status.

How is the phase split applied?

Broiler: Starter 18% / Grower 34% / Finisher 48% of total feed by default. Layer: Pre-lay 8% / Phase 1 46% / Phase 2 46%. Adjust to your program before procurement.

Why download inputs?

Save the CSV or JSON to reproduce the run, share with feed suppliers for tender pricing, or attach to an RFQ so quotes are comparable on identical assumptions.

Sizing feed demand before you buy

Feed demand is animal numbers times stage-level intake times cycle length, adjusted for mortality and for handling and storage losses. Getting this right sets contract volume, storage sizing and shipment frequency — under-sizing forces emergency spot purchases at the worst price of the year.

What this page gives you

  • Cycle and annual feed demand by species and stage
  • Shipment frequency and storage capacity implications
  • Volume figures ready to paste into an RFQ

Frequently asked

What loss allowance should be included?
Include mortality-adjusted intake plus a handling and storage allowance appropriate to your packaging and climate; humid, bagged, low-frequency supply chains lose materially more than bulk silo systems.
Is FeedMatch Group a manufacturer, trader or lender?
None of those. FeedMatch Group is an independent B2B matching and procurement-intelligence platform. We structure the buyer brief, benchmark it, and route it to verified suppliers or service providers; contracts, goods and any financing sit between the buyer and the counterparty.
What size of project does the platform handle?
The platform is built around industrial feed procurement and feed-project scopes from roughly USD 250K upward, including recurring ingredient contracts, feed mill build-outs and equipment packages. Smaller enquiries are answered but are not the platform's focus.
