Frequently asked questions
How should trace mineral offers be compared?
Always on delivered cost per unit of the element itself, not per tonne of salt. Divide the landed cost by the guaranteed element assay, then apply the inclusion rate your formulation requires. Zinc sulphate monohydrate at roughly 35% Zn and zinc oxide at roughly 72% Zn look very different per tonne and can be identical per unit of zinc.
Are hydroxy or chelated trace minerals worth the premium?
They can be where bioavailability, antagonism in the premix or reduced excretion matters, and where regulatory limits force lower inclusion. Quantify it: compare the delivered cost per unit of element multiplied by the inclusion rate each form actually needs in your matrix, rather than accepting a bioavailability claim without supporting data.
Which contaminant limits should I write into the RFQ?
For EU destinations, the maximum levels of Directive 2002/32/EC for lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, fluorine and dioxins apply and should be stated explicitly, along with the analytical method. Mineral sources are the highest-risk category for heavy metals, so require a recent third-party certificate of analysis and reserve the right to independent sampling on arrival.
Can I buy several elements from one supplier?
Often yes, and consolidating elements into one shipment reduces freight and documentation cost. Suppliers quoting through FeedMatch price each element line separately so you can still award line by line if a mixed award is cheaper overall.
