Why the dose is a gap, not a recipe

That is why the same feed mill can legitimately run 2.3 kg/t one month and 2.9 kg/t the next — the soybean meal changed, not the requirement. Any published inclusion rate that is not tied to a raw-material matrix should be treated as a sense-check on your own least-cost run, never as a substitute for it.
Read the ratio to lysine, not the absolute figure
Breed nutrition guides express amino acid targets as ideal-protein ratios against digestible lysine precisely because absolute values shift with diet density. Met+Cys sits at roughly 74–77% of digestible lysine across broiler phases, and methionine alone at about 47–50%. Working from the ratio protects you in two situations the absolute number handles badly: a low-density diet in a hot climate where feed intake rises, and a high-density pre-starter where every nutrient moves together. If your formulation software reports a Met+Cys to lysine ratio outside 72–80%, check the matrix before you change the methionine purchase.
DL-methionine versus the liquid hydroxy analogue
DL-methionine 99% and the liquid methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA-FA, 88% activity) are both bought to fill the same gap, so they must be compared on delivered cost per kilogram of methionine activity, not per kilogram of product. On a widely used equivalence, 1 kg of DL-methionine replaces about 1.13 kg of MHA-FA on a weight-for-weight product basis. The choice usually turns on handling: dry product suits bagged premix operations and small mills, while the liquid needs dosing hardware, corrosion-resistant lines and a post-mixer application point but avoids dust and can be metered accurately at low inclusion.
