Short answer · reviewed August 2026

What is DL-Methionine 99% Feed Grade?

DL-methionine 99% feed grade is the crystalline synthetic form of the first limiting amino acid in poultry diets, traded at a minimum assay of 99.0% on a dry basis. It is normally dosed at 0.5–3.0 kg per tonne of finished feed depending on species, phase and the crude protein level of the formula. A comparable offer must state assay, moisture, form (crystalline powder vs the liquid MHA-FA alternative, which is not equivalent on a product-for-product basis), packaging, production date, Incoterm and named loading port.

Documents a compliant offer must carry

  • Certificate of Analysis (CoA) per batch
The only document that ties the delivered lot to the specification you contracted.
  • GMP+ B2, FAMI-QS or equivalent feed-safety certification
Required by most EU and Gulf buyers and by many mills' own HACCP plans.
  • Certificate of Origin
Drives duty treatment and, in several markets, import permit eligibility.
  • Heavy-metal and dioxin/PCB statement or test report
Feed-safety limits are enforced at import; a missing report stops the container.
  • Packing list with lot numbers and production date
Lets you trace a claim to a specific lot and check remaining shelf life on arrival.

Packaging, Incoterms and container maths

Packaging
25 kg multi-wall paper bag · 1,000 kg big bag (FIBC) · Palletised and shrink-wrapped
Common Incoterms
FOB · CFR · CIF · DAP for regional lanes
Minimum order
Commonly one full pallet for trial volume; producers and traders usually quote from 5 t
Container loading
20 ft ≈ 20–22 t on pallets; 40 ft ≈ 24–25 t (volume-limited, not weight-limited)
Lead time
Ex-stock traders 1–3 weeks; direct producer allocation 4–10 weeks depending on plant
Shelf life and storage
24 months from production in sealed original packaging, dry storage

Ask for production date, not just shipment date — bagged material that has sat in a hot warehouse cakes and complicates dosing. On CFR offers confirm whether demurrage and detention free time is included.

Who produces it

FeedMatch Group is independent and does not represent any producer. The landscape below is descriptive, not a ranking.

  • Global integrated producers
A handful of plants in Europe, Asia and North America set the reference price; they typically sell on allocation and quote annual or quarterly frames.
  • Regional producers
Additional capacity in Asia competes hard on specific lanes and can be materially cheaper delivered, with the same 99% assay.
  • Traders and distributors
Hold local stock, sell in pallet quantities, and add a margin in exchange for short lead time and small lots.

Frequently asked

Is DL-methionine 99% the same as liquid MHA-FA?
No. MHA-FA (liquid methionine hydroxy analogue, typically 88%) is a different molecule with a different active content and handling requirement. Comparing the two only makes sense on cost per unit of bioavailable methionine in your own formula, not per kilo of product.
What assay should I write into the RFQ?
Specify minimum 99.0% DL-methionine on a dry basis, loss on drying maximum 0.5%, and require the analytical method to be named on the CoA so offers are analytically comparable.
How much DL-methionine goes into a tonne of feed?
Typically 0.5 to 3.0 kg per tonne of finished feed, depending on species, growth phase and the crude protein level of the diet. Broiler starter diets sit at the higher end.
Does FeedMatch Group sell DL-methionine?
No. FeedMatch Group is an independent procurement platform. We structure the RFQ, run it to qualified producers and traders, and help you compare the offers on landed cost.
