Poland is the European Union's largest poultry producer, and its feed sector has grown with it. Broiler feed dominates, supported by turkey, layer, swine and dairy. Because Polish poultry is heavily export-oriented, feed hygiene, Salmonella control and traceability are conditions of market access rather than internal quality preferences.
Poland also has a real domestic raw material base — wheat, rye, triticale, maize and rapeseed meal — which reduces exposure to imported soybean meal but introduces variability that the plant has to handle. Rye and triticale behave differently from wheat and maize in grinding, flow and conditioning, so a mill designed around an idealised ingredient list will underperform on the real one. Gdańsk, Gdynia and Szczecin cover imported balances and equipment arrivals; overland delivery from German, Italian and Turkish suppliers is short.

Energy
- Grinding and pelleting dominate electrical draw; drying adds seasonal thermal cost at harvest.
- Require guaranteed kWh per tonne by section at a defined formula — including a rye or triticale case if those are in the mix.
- Compare offers on grant-adjusted net cost as well as gross cost; eligible scope differs between suppliers.
Storage and silos
- Domestic supply means storage is driven by harvest intake peaks and drying capacity rather than vessel arrivals.
- Segregate variable cereal qualities; blending strategy depends on being able to keep streams apart.
- Model rye and triticale bulk densities separately from wheat and maize when sizing silos.
Total cost of ownership
- Compare installed cost plus energy, wear parts, maintenance labour and downtime over five and ten years.
- Short overland lead times from German, Italian and Turkish suppliers make firm delivery and commissioning dates realistic to negotiate.
- Require a priced two-year wear-part list and documented service response time in Poland.

Do EU grants change which feed mill supplier is cheapest?
They can. Grant programmes fund defined categories of eligible equipment and scope, and two suppliers offering similar plants may have different eligible proportions. That means the grant-adjusted net cost can rank differently from the headline price. Confirm eligibility before ordering, and compare both gross and net figures. What equipment does a Polish poultry feed mill need?
Intake with drying capacity, segregated storage for variable cereals, hammer or roller milling, batching and weighing, a horizontal mixer with liquid addition, micro-dosing for premix and additives, conditioning and pelleting, cooling, crumbling and screening, finished-feed bins, bulk loadout or bagging, dust control and a QC laboratory. Hygiene scope and automation depth carry most of the cost difference between competing offers.
Why does rye and triticale handling matter?
Flow behaviour, bulk density and grinding energy differ from wheat and maize, which affects silo sizing, grinder selection, screen choice and conditioning. If those cereals will be a genuine part of the formula, state their expected inclusion in the RFQ so the plant is designed for the real ingredient mix rather than a convenient assumption.
