HVAC, biosecurity and building envelope

Hatchery HVAC handles heat load from thousands of setters plus latent load from humidification. Air changes are typically 8–15 ACH in incubation rooms with HEPA or F9 filtration on incoming air. Biosecurity requires unidirectional flow — clean-to-dirty — with shower-in/shower-out, dedicated PPE and separate egg and chick truck routes. Retrofitting these into an existing building is often more expensive than building purpose-built.

Utilities and redundancy

A 100,000-eggs/week hatchery typically needs 250–500 kVA of installed power, 100% backup generator coverage (a 6-hour outage during hatching can wipe out an entire hatch), water treatment, standby humidification steam and dual chillers.
