Short answer · reviewed August 2026
What is L-Lysine HCl 98.5% Feed Grade?
L-lysine hydrochloride 98.5% feed grade is the standard fermentation-derived lysine source, containing roughly 78.8% lysine on a product basis. It is typically dosed at 1–5 kg per tonne of finished feed and competes commercially with lysine sulphate (about 51–70% lysine), which must be compared per unit of lysine rather than per tonne of product. A comparable offer must state assay, lysine content basis, moisture, packaging, production date, Incoterm and origin.

Documents a compliant offer must carry
- Certificate of Analysis (CoA) per batchThe only document that ties the delivered lot to the specification you contracted.
- GMP+ B2, FAMI-QS or equivalent feed-safety certificationRequired by most EU and Gulf buyers and by many mills' own HACCP plans.
- Certificate of OriginDrives duty treatment and, in several markets, import permit eligibility.
- Heavy-metal and dioxin/PCB statement or test reportFeed-safety limits are enforced at import; a missing report stops the container.
- Packing list with lot numbers and production dateLets you trace a claim to a specific lot and check remaining shelf life on arrival.
Packaging, Incoterms and container maths
- Packaging
- 25 kg PP/PE bag · 1,000 kg big bag (FIBC) · Bulk on selected lanes
- Common Incoterms
- FOB · CFR · CIF · DAP
- Minimum order
- Traders quote from one pallet; producers typically from one full container
- Container loading
- 20 ft ≈ 22–25 t bagged; 40 ft ≈ 26–27 t depending on packaging
- Lead time
- Ex-stock 1–2 weeks; direct from fermentation plant 4–8 weeks plus sailing time
- Shelf life and storage
- 24 months in sealed original packaging, dry storage below 25 °C
Lysine is hygroscopic — reject offers that do not confirm a moisture-barrier liner, and inspect for caking on arrival before the claim window closes.
Who produces it
FeedMatch Group is independent and does not represent any producer. The landscape below is descriptive, not a ranking.
- Large fermentation producersAsian and European fermentation plants dominate global supply; corn and energy costs drive their offer levels.
- Lysine sulphate producersSell a lower-concentration alternative that can be cheaper per unit of lysine but changes the mineral load of the formula.
- Traders and distributorsProvide local stock and small lots at a premium over producer-direct pricing.
