Aquaculture feed
Definition
Aquaculture feed covers fish and shrimp rations, produced by extrusion for floating feed or by pelleting for sinking feed. It typically requires finer grinding and higher oil inclusion than land-animal feed.
Why it matters
Extrusion adds a preconditioner, extruder, dryer and coater, changing both capital cost and energy demand.
When it affects procurement
At the first design decision: floating or sinking feed.
Example
A 3 t/h floating tilapia feed line with 2, 4 and 6 mm sizes and vacuum oil coating.
Frequently asked questions
Can one line make both fish and shrimp feed?
Sometimes, but shrimp feed's fine grinding and water stability requirements usually justify dedicated equipment.
