Solid DL-methionine is a crystalline powder at 99% minimum assay, free-flowing and stable, handled like any dry micro-ingredient. Liquid methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA-FA) is typically supplied at 88% active as a corrosive acidic liquid, requiring dedicated tanks, lines and dosing pumps in stainless or lined material, but eliminating dust and bagged handling. Calcium salt versions of the hydroxy analogue sit between the two. The forms are nutritionally different products, not packaging variants, and must be converted to an equivalent basis before any price comparison.
The bio-efficacy conversion
Liquid hydroxy analogue is both less concentrated and, on most published evaluations, less efficacious per unit of active than DL-methionine on a product basis, so the price per tonne of liquid is not comparable to the price per tonne of powder.
