In intensive aquaculture, feed is typically the largest single operating expense, and feed that is not eaten is lost twice — once as cost and again as a load on water quality. Precision feeding is therefore an infrastructure question rather than a device purchase: how feed is stored on site, how it reaches each pond, cage or tank, how it is dispensed in many small events rather than a few large ones, how feeding response is observed, and how consumption is recorded per unit. Scope those five layers together; a feeder added to a system that cannot supply or monitor it changes very little.

Those results were produced in specific species, systems, densities and management regimes. Ask what conditions produced the figure, what the control treatment was, and what the operation had to do differently to obtain it. Then evaluate the equipment on what can be specified and verified: dispensing accuracy, event scheduling, durability in your climate, calibration procedure, data capture, integration, power requirement, service response and spares.
