In intensive aquaculture, feed is typically the largest single operating expense, and feed that is not eaten is lost twice — once as cost and again as a load on water quality. Precision feeding is therefore an infrastructure question rather than a device purchase: how feed is stored on site, how it reaches each pond, cage or tank, how it is dispensed in many small events rather than a few large ones, how feeding response is observed, and how consumption is recorded per unit. Scope those five layers together; a feeder added to a system that cannot supply or monitor it changes very little.

Shrimp and fish operations feel feed economics more sharply than any other sector, because demand shifts continuously with biomass, survival, temperature and feeding response, and because the evidence of a mistake sinks out of sight. How to evaluate the technology claims

Suppliers of automatic and sensor-guided feeding systems publish performance improvements from their own trials and from published research. Those results were produced in specific species, systems, densities and management regimes. Ask what conditions produced the figure, what the control treatment was, and what the operation had to do differently to obtain it. Then evaluate the equipment on what can be specified and verified: dispensing accuracy, event scheduling, durability in your climate, calibration procedure, data capture, integration, power requirement, service response and spares. Sizing questions to answer before quotations

  • Number of ponds, cages or tanks at the current and target scale, with surface areas or volumes.

How do I automate feeding across multiple shrimp ponds?
Treat it as a system rather than as a feeder count. You need storage on site with adequate cover, a distribution method that can reach every pond with the daily tonnage, automatic feeders sized for the events per pond per day, a control layer that schedules them and records what each pond received, and a power and service arrangement that holds up in an outdoor environment. Feeding-response monitoring can be added where the value of tighter feeding justifies it. Establish the storage and distribution capacity first, because feeders installed on a system that cannot supply them change little.
Does automatic feeding improve FCR in shrimp or fish farming?
Published research and supplier trials report improvements under defined conditions, but FeedMatch does not guarantee FCR, growth or survival outcomes from any system. What automation changes reliably is execution: the number of feeding events becomes practical, dispensing is mechanical rather than manual, and consumption can be recorded per unit.
