Scope definition
Aqua extrusion line: the full scope your RFQ has to cover
An extruded aquafeed line is not just an extruder. The scope runs from intake, cleaning and fine grinding, through dosing, mixing and preconditioning, to the extruder with its die and knife system, then dryer, post-extrusion cooler, vacuum coater, screening, and bagging or bulk dispatch — plus steam, compressed air, dust control, electrical supply, structural steel, civil works, installation, commissioning, training and spares. Most price differences between proposals come from which of these items are excluded, not from the extruder itself.
Comparing extrusion proposals without a fixed scope boundary compares different plants. Fix the boundary first, then request quotes.
Define your aquafeed line in a structured RFQProcess scope, stage by stage
- Intake, pre-cleaning, magnets and storage
- Fine grinding, often two-stage or with a micro-pulveriser for small diameters
- Micro and macro dosing, weighing accuracy, mixing and liquid addition
- Preconditioner: retention time, steam and water addition control
- Extruder: screw configuration, die and knife system, capacity per product
- Dryer: type, fuel, capacity in your ambient design case, moisture control
- Post-extrusion cooler and screening
- Vacuum coater for oil and heat-sensitive additives
- Bagging, bulk load-out and finished product storage
Utilities and infrastructure to specify
- Steam generation capacity and fuel
- Dryer fuel: gas, diesel, biomass or electric, with availability confirmed
- Electrical supply, connected load, backup and stability
- Compressed air demand
- Dust extraction, explosion protection and hygiene design
- Water quality and supply for preconditioning
Frequently excluded items to make explicit
- Civil works, foundations and building
- Structural steel and platforms
- Electrical distribution beyond the supplier's panel
- Installation, mechanical erection and supervision
- Commissioning, product trials and recipe optimisation
- Operator and maintenance training
- Commissioning spares and two-year critical spares
- Freight, insurance, duties and local taxes
Automation and quality control
- Recipe management, batch traceability and reporting
- Density, moisture and temperature monitoring
- Water stability and durability testing methods
- Data integration with your existing systems
Scope boundary checklist
| Package | Included by supplier? | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Grinding line | Often partly | Fineness requirement for extrusion drives the specification |
| Preconditioner | Usually | Retention time affects gelatinisation and capacity |
| Dryer | Sometimes separate | Frequently the real capacity limit and a major energy cost |
| Vacuum coater | Often optional | Required for high oil inclusion and heat-sensitive additives |
| Steam plant | Often excluded | Large cost item quoted separately by many suppliers |
| Civil and steel | Usually excluded | Can rival the process package in cost |
| Installation and commissioning | Varies widely | The largest single source of price differences |
| Spares and training | Often excluded | Affects startup risk and first-year operating cost |
Use one identical scope table for every supplier so proposals become comparable.

Write the requirement once and send the same document to every supplier you are considering, including one you already prefer. FeedMatch sells nothing and takes no part in the contract.
