Aqua extrusion line: the full scope your RFQ has to cover

Short answer

An extruded aquafeed line is not just an extruder. The scope runs from intake, cleaning and fine grinding, through dosing, mixing and preconditioning, to the extruder with its die and knife system, then dryer, post-extrusion cooler, vacuum coater, screening, and bagging or bulk dispatch — plus steam, compressed air, dust control, electrical supply, structural steel, civil works, installation, commissioning, training and spares. Most price differences between proposals come from which of these items are excluded, not from the extruder itself.

Questions buyers ask

What is usually the bottleneck in an aqua extrusion line?

In many plants it is the dryer rather than the extruder, particularly for low-density floating products or in humid climates. Require suppliers to state dryer capacity against your ambient design case and your lowest-density product.

How should capacity be expressed for an extrusion line?

Per product. Ask for tonnes per hour for each buoyancy class and diameter in your portfolio, not a single plant figure, and require the recipe and density basis for each.

Do I need a vacuum coater?

It is normally required where fat inclusion exceeds what can be applied in the mixer and recipe, or where heat-sensitive additives must be applied after drying. Define your target fat and additive strategy before deciding.
