To convert a feed inclusion rate from percent to kg per tonne, multiply the percentage by 10: 1% = 10 kg/tonne. For micro-ingredients, 1 kg/tonne = 1,000 g/tonne = 1,000 ppm. To scale to a mixer batch, multiply kg/tonne by the batch size in tonnes — a 0.05% additive is 0.5 kg/tonne, or 250 g in a 500 kg batch.

How many kg per tonne is 1% inclusion?
1% inclusion equals 10 kg per tonne of finished feed, because one tonne is 1,000 kg and 1% of 1,000 kg is 10 kg.
Is 1 kg per tonne the same as 1,000 ppm?
Yes. 1 kg per tonne is 1,000 g per 1,000,000 g of feed, which is 1,000 parts per million.
How do I scale an inclusion rate to my mixer batch?
Multiply the kg-per-tonne figure by the batch size in tonnes. A 3 kg/tonne additive in a 2.5-tonne mixer is 7.5 kg per batch.
When should an additive go through a premix instead of direct dosing?
As a rule of thumb, anything dosed below about 0.5 kg per tonne should be carried in a premix so it distributes evenly and stays within mixing uniformity limits.
