Silo
Definition
A silo stores bulk raw materials or finished feed. Capacity is calculated from required days of cover and the bulk density of the stored material.
Why it matters
Storage sizing decides intake logistics, purchasing strategy and civil cost.
When it affects procurement
At plant layout, because foundations and erection are often larger costs than the silos themselves.
