Conditioning (steam conditioner)
Definition
Conditioning is the step before the pellet press where mash is mixed with steam (and sometimes liquids) to add heat and moisture, so it binds and pellets more easily.
Why it matters
Conditioner size, retention time and steam supply often limit real pellet line throughput more than the press motor does.
When it affects procurement
When scoping the boiler and steam line and comparing pellet line quotes — check whether the boiler is included.
Example
A quote states conditioner retention time and steam demand in kg/h, and whether the boiler is in or out of scope.
Frequently asked questions
Does every pellet line need a boiler?
Steam conditioning needs a steam source. Confirm in every quote whether the boiler, steam piping and water treatment are included.
