Packaging and marking for exported feed ingredients

Kurz gefasst

Packaging protects the material through handling, transit and storage; marking makes it identifiable and traceable, and both must be specified contractually because a supplier's standard packaging may not suit your route or warehouse.

Kernpunkte

  • Specify bag type, weight, liner, pallet configuration and marking explicitly.
  • Marking must carry lot identity for traceability to survive.
  • Packaging choice must match the route's climate and handling profile.

Choosing the format

Bagged, big bags or bulk each imply different handling equipment, storage density and labour. Choose the format your warehouse actually handles efficiently rather than the one that quotes cheapest per tonne.

Protection level

Woven polypropylene alone offers limited moisture protection; laminated or lined bags perform better on humid routes. Sensitive materials may require sealed liners with the moisture barrier defined in the specification.

Marking and identification

Product name, producer, lot number, production date, net weight, storage instructions and any regulatory marking. Lot number on the packaging is what makes traceability work when documents and material are separated.

Zu prüfen

  • Packaging type, weight and liner specified contractually
  • Marking content and language confirmed against import requirements
  • Pallet configuration matched to warehouse and container dimensions

Zu steuernde Risiken

  • Moisture ingress through inadequate packaging on humid routes
  • Bag breakage and losses during multiple handling stages
  • Marking that does not meet destination regulatory requirements

Häufige Fehler

  • Accepting the supplier's standard packaging without review
  • Omitting lot number from the packaging marking
  • Ignoring pallet dimensions and losing container capacity

Häufige Fragen

Are big bags better than small bags?

They reduce handling labour and are efficient where mechanical handling exists. Where handling is manual or storage is fragmented, smaller bags are often more practical.

What marking is mandatory?

It depends on the destination's feed labelling regulation. Confirm the requirement before production, since re-marking at destination is expensive and sometimes not permitted.
