Shrimp feed production requirements before you choose equipment
Short answer
Shrimp feed is defined by water stability and particle fineness. Because shrimp feed slowly, pellets must hold together in water far longer than fish feed, which demands very fine grinding, controlled binding, tight moisture management and, depending on the product strategy, either high-quality steam pelleting or extrusion. Diameters are small, which reduces throughput; sinking density is required; and post-process handling must limit fines. Specify water-stability duration and its test method, grinding fineness, diameter range, density and durability in the RFQ, because these — not headline TPH — determine what equipment is suitable.

Does shrimp feed require extrusion?
Not necessarily. Both high-specification steam pelleting and extrusion are used commercially, and the right route depends on your product strategy, stability targets, fat inclusion and market. Decide the route from the product specification before approaching suppliers.
Why is throughput lower on shrimp feed?
Fine grinding and small diameters both reduce achievable rate, and stability requirements limit how fast the process can be pushed. Require suppliers to quote capacity for your smallest diameter, not for a generic reference product.
How should water stability be verified?
Agree a written test method, immersion duration and acceptance criterion before contract, and include it in the commissioning acceptance protocol. Without an agreed method, stability claims cannot be tested objectively.
