Trout Feed Budget Calculator: Tonnes per Cycle and Feed Cost per kg is a planning tool for budget-stage and RFQ-stage decisions. It gives defensible numbers to compare suppliers against — it is not an engineering, veterinary or financing approval.

What it can do

Short answer

Trout feed required = biomass gain × FCR × (1 + feed loss). Stocking 400,000 fingerlings at 25 g and harvesting at 350 g with 90% survival and an FCR of 1.15 gives about 124 tonnes of gain and roughly 146 tonnes of feed for the cycle.

Economic FCR — all feed bought divided by biomass harvested — is what your budget sees, typically above the biological figure once mortality and feed loss are counted. Enter your own FCR above rather than a catalogue number.
How do I size a trout feed contract?
Take the feed per cycle from the calculator and multiply by cycles per year, then add the stock you want in store. Contract on the annual tonnage with a delivery schedule, not on a single order.
What changes cost per kg most on a trout farm?
FCR, feed price per tonne and mortality, roughly in that order. A 0.1 change in FCR moves feed cost per kg harvested by several percent — run the conservative scenario to see the effect on your numbers.
