Packaging equipment weighs, labels, seals and case-packs finished poultry products. Modified-atmosphere packaging (MAP) is standard on fresh retail, with vacuum-pack on portioned products.

Role within the project

Packaging drives shelf-life, retail acceptance and downgrade cost. Weighing accuracy directly affects revenue on price-per-kg pack.

Typical applications

  • Fresh whole-bird retail packaging
  • Portioned fresh poultry (MAP or vacuum)
  • Further-processed and RTE poultry packaging
  • Bulk food-service packaging

Selection criteria

  • Weighing accuracy at target throughput
  • MAP gas mix consistency
  • Retail-network label compliance
  • Changeover time between SKUs

Engineering considerations

  • Weigher accuracy usually ±1 g at retail pack size
  • MAP gas mix ±2% at seal
  • Line pressure and seal-quality inspection
  • OEE monitoring and downtime tracking

Commercial considerations

  • Per-pack CAPEX comparison
  • MAP gas consumption OPEX
  • Label and film supply logistics

Procurement considerations

  • SAT on your target SKU mix and film supplier
  • Gas mix guarantee at seal in contract
  • Retail-network compliance certification for target markets

Common mistakes

  • Weigher accuracy poor — revenue leakage on price-per-kg
  • MAP mix drift — shelf-life below claim
  • No changeover-time test in SAT — production planning breaks
  • Ignoring retail-network label spec
Ask suppliers
Ask for measured MAP mix consistency and weigher accuracy at your SKU mix and film supplier under commercial operation.

Frequently asked

MAP or vacuum for fresh retail?
MAP is standard for whole-bird and skin-on fresh — extends shelf-life while keeping presentation. Vacuum is used on portioned, skinless and value-added SKUs. Both may run on the same plant.
How much does packaging OPEX matter?
MAP gas, film and labels typically run 3–8% of finished-goods cost. Weighing accuracy and downgrade rate are usually larger levers than pack material choice.
