Two laboratories will not agree exactly
Reproducibility between laboratories is a documented property of every method. A specification without a tolerance and a stated reference method converts normal measurement variation into an avoidable commercial dispute.
Price adjustment beats rejection in most cases
For nutrient parameters, a sliding price-adjustment scale keeps the cargo moving and prices the actual value delivered. Hard rejection clauses belong to safety parameters — contaminants, prohibited materials, pathogens — where value cannot be adjusted.
O que verificar
- —Reference method named for every contractual parameter
- —Tolerance band and adjustment scale in writing
- —Nominated umpire laboratory and dispute timeline
- —Retained sample custody arrangements
Riscos típicos
- —Unresolvable disputes with no umpire mechanism
- —Claims failing because the retained sample was not properly sealed and stored
Erros comuns
- —Copying a specification without tolerances
- —Assuming the seller's laboratory and the buyer's laboratory will match to the decimal

Who pays for umpire analysis?
Usually the losing party, defined in the contract. What matters more is that the umpire laboratory, the method and the deadline are agreed before a dispute, not during one.

Sampling is the largest source of error in feed-ingredient testing; a valid result requires many small increments combined into a representative composite, taken to a written plan.
Independent verification means testing the delivered lot at an accredited third-party laboratory using the contractual reference methods, on a properly drawn and retained sample.
