Mycotoxin binder specifications: what to put in your request
Mycotoxin binders are feed additives, not equipment. This checklist helps you describe what you need so suppliers can quote like-for-like. This page shows no prices: real prices depend on the product, volume and destination, and come only from supplier quotes. Product choice and dosing belong with a qualified nutritionist or veterinarian.
Binder types to compare
- Clay-based binders (bentonite, aluminosilicates): mainly bind aflatoxin; limited effect on many other mycotoxins
- Yeast cell-wall products: broader binding profile for some toxins; typically a different cost level than clays
- Enzymatic or bio-transforming products: aim to change certain toxins rather than bind them; check which toxins are covered
- Blended products combining several approaches: ask exactly which toxins each component addresses
What to state in your request
- Species and life stage (poultry, swine, cattle, fish or shrimp) and daily feed volume in tonnes
- The mycotoxins you need to address, from your own feed test results — not guesses
- Inclusion rate range you can accept (kg per tonne of feed) and how it fits your formula
- Form (powder or granule), packaging size and pallet configuration
- Required documentation: certificate of analysis per batch, safety data sheet, and any registrations valid in your country
- Shelf life and storage conditions, especially heat and humidity at your site
Questions for your nutritionist or veterinarian
- Which binder type matches the toxins actually found in your feed tests
- The effective inclusion rate and whether it displaces nutrients in your formula
- Whether the binder interacts with medications, vitamins or minerals you use
- How you will verify it works: follow-up feed tests and animal performance records
What a binder cannot do
- A binder does not fix heavily contaminated ingredients — sourcing and testing come first
- No binder covers every mycotoxin; match the product to your test results
- Binders mitigate losses under a mycotoxin challenge; they are not a guaranteed performance gain in clean feed
- Dosing and product choice belong with a qualified nutritionist or veterinarian, not a sales sheet
