Incoterms 2020 for feed and ingredient buyers
Incoterms decide who pays freight, who insures the cargo, and where risk transfers. Getting them wrong on a 5,000 MT SBM shipment can cost more than the annual procurement budget. Here is the practical map for feed buyers.

Visual scope of procurement · incoterms
EXW (Ex Works)
Buyer takes charge at seller's mill. Cheapest headline price, most operational burden. Only use if you have a trusted forwarder at origin.
FOB / FCA
Seller loads at origin port. Buyer arranges main freight and insurance. Standard for repeat buyers who can consolidate freight.
CFR / CPT
Seller pays main freight. Buyer arranges insurance. Common for one-off ingredient parcels.
CIF / CIP
Seller pays freight AND insurance to discharge port. Default for most feed ingredient trade — least buyer overhead, slight premium for the convenience.
DAP / DPU
Seller delivers to buyer's warehouse (DAP) or unloaded at warehouse (DPU). Best for buyers without import capability.
DDP
Seller handles everything including import duties and taxes. Rare on feed ingredients due to tax registration requirements — usually only for premix and additive containerized shipments.
