Water Treatment

Water treatment for commercial poultry combines sediment removal, disinfection, softening and mineral removal (iron, manganese) as required by the source water profile. Poor water quality is a leading cause of flock performance loss.

Role within the project

Water treatment protects flock performance (feed conversion, mortality, hatchability) and drinker-line integrity. Every commercial site should test source water and design treatment against that profile — not from a generic package.

Is chlorination enough?
For most surface and shallow-well sources, sediment filtration + chlorination is a strong baseline. Hard water needs softening; iron / manganese need dedicated removal. UV is a chlorine alternative on smaller sites but needs pre-filtration.
How often should I test water?
Full lab analysis at commissioning, then at least twice yearly plus after any source change. On-farm chlorine residual should be measured weekly.
