Check the date before the analysis
Production date, declared shelf life and elapsed time give an immediate read on the risk of a delivery. This costs nothing and catches problems that a nutrient panel would not reveal for weeks.
Stability indicators for aged material
Where remaining shelf life is short or storage history is unclear, run the indicators that move with age: free fatty acids and anisidine value for fat-bearing materials, vitamin assay for premixes, moisture and mould counts for meals.
確認すべき事項
- —Production date and minimum remaining shelf life on arrival, in the contract
- —First-expiry-first-out placement at intake
- —Stability indicators where storage history is unclear
- —Segregation and re-testing schedule for slow-moving stock
主なリスク
- —Premix potency below label claim by the time of use
- —Stock write-off after delayed shipment
- —Silent underperformance from degraded vitamins
よくある誤り
- —Accepting deliveries without recording production date
- —Storing new deliveries in front of older stock
よくある質問
What if remaining shelf life is shorter than contracted?
Treat it as a non-conformance immediately: record it at intake, notify the supplier within the claim window, and either negotiate an adjustment or reallocate the material to fast-moving production before it degrades further.

Shelf life is the period over which an ingredient retains its declared specification under defined storage conditions; it is a conditional statement, not a fixed property of the material.
Storage history — how long, at what temperature and humidity, in what structure, alongside what else — explains most of the gap between a production certificate and the quality actually delivered.
Oxidation degrades fats and fat-soluble vitamins, and is tracked through peroxide value, anisidine value, TOTOX and free fatty acids — a set that must be read together, not individually.
