Feed mill equipment in Nigeria — turnkey pelleting plants and catfish feed lines.

Nigerian poultry and catfish producers are building their own mills to escape volatile bagged-feed prices. FeedMatch is supplier-neutral: we scope the plant with you and put one written specification in front of manufacturers who actually build at that capacity and support it locally.

Grain handling is the hidden cost

Buyers budget the pellet mill and underestimate intake, cleaning, drying and storage. Where maize arrives above 14% moisture, a mill without drying either buys expensive dry grain or loses product to mould. Price the intake line at the same time as the process line.

Power design decides operating cost

Ask every bidder for kWh per tonne at your recipe, not nameplate motor totals. That number sizes the generator, sets the diesel budget and often changes which pelleting configuration is actually cheapest to run in Naira terms.

Poultry pellets and catfish floating feed

Layer and broiler feed runs on a conventional grinding, mixing, conditioning and pelleting line. Floating catfish feed needs fine grinding, a preconditioner, an extruder, a dryer and an oil coater. A shared front end feeding two trains is usually the efficient structure when both markets are served.

Spare parts and local support

Die and roller wear, gearbox parts and electrical spares dominate downtime risk. Make in-country or regional service presence and a two-year spare-part list part of the tender comparison, not a post-award discussion.

Ingredient programme

Maize, soybean meal, fish meal, amino acids and premix are the recurring cost the mill exists to control. FeedMatch prices the ingredient programme through the same RFQ so operating economics are known before commissioning.

Short answer · reviewed August 2026

What does a feed mill in Nigeria need that an imported standard design does not cover?

Three local factors reshape the specification. Maize and soybean arrive at variable and often high moisture, so intake cleaning, drying and moisture testing belong in the base scope rather than as options. Grid supply is unreliable, so specific energy consumption per tonne decides generator sizing and soft-start strategy, and dual-fuel or hybrid backup is normal. And catfish producers need floating pellets, which a pellet mill cannot make — that requires an extrusion train, usually sharing the grinding and mixing front end.

Size the plant first

FeedMatch is a supplier-neutral sourcing platform and does not manufacture equipment. Indicative project classes only — final pricing requires a technical specification and current supplier quotations. Project financing may be available subject to buyer, project, country and lender eligibility.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does a feed mill cost in Nigeria?
Capacity, grain drying and storage scope, civil works and automation set the figure — not a national price. FeedMatch provides an indicative project class from your capacity and scope, then runs current supplier quotations against a written specification.
What capacity feed mill do I need for my poultry farm?
Divide annual feed tonnage by planned operating hours per day and days per year, then add 15–25% headroom. A 10,000-bird broiler cycle needs a very different plant from a regional feed seller; the capacity sizing guide shows the calculation.
Can one plant produce both poultry pellets and floating catfish feed?
Yes, but only if an extrusion line is installed alongside pelleting. The grinding and mixing section can be shared; flotation itself requires extrusion cooking, not pelleting.
Should I buy Chinese, Turkish or European equipment?
It depends on capacity class, recipe variability, expected running hours and available service support. FeedMatch compares offers from all three origins on total cost of ownership — energy per tonne, wear parts and support — rather than on headline price.
Does FeedMatch manufacture equipment?
No. FeedMatch is a supplier-neutral B2B sourcing platform connecting buyers with equipment manufacturers, suppliers and project partners.
