Feed mill equipment in India — new pelleting plants and automation retrofits.
Indian poultry, dairy and aqua producers are moving from mash and hand-dosed premix to pelleted, automated production. FeedMatch is supplier-neutral: we scope the plant or the retrofit, then run the specification past manufacturers that genuinely build at that capacity class.

Local fabrication vs imported process equipment
India has strong local capability in conveying, structures, mixers and simple pellet mills; imported scope concentrates in high-output pellet mills, hygienisers, micro-dosing accuracy, extrusion and process control. Splitting the RFQ along that line usually beats a single fully-local or fully-imported package.
Micro-dosing and premix accuracy
Amino acid, phytase and vitamin-premix losses are invisible until performance drops. Specify weighing accuracy class, minimum batch weight and carry-over limits in the RFQ rather than accepting a generic dosing station.
Retrofit or new line
Retrofits are cheaper only when grinding, steam and power headroom already exist. Where the existing hammer mill is the bottleneck, a new parallel line is frequently the lower total cost over five years — the capacity-sizing calculator makes that comparison explicit.
Ingredient programme
Soybean meal, maize, DORB, DL-methionine and lysine volumes are the recurring cost. FeedMatch runs the ingredient RFQ alongside the equipment RFQ so the operating cost is known before commissioning.
Short answer · reviewed August 2026
What does it take to upgrade an Indian mash feed mill to pelleted feed?
A mash-to-pellet upgrade needs steam (a boiler sized for roughly 55–70 kg steam per tonne of feed), a conditioner, a pellet mill with the right die specification, a counter-flow cooler, a crumbler for pre-starter and starter, and sieving before bagging. Grinding capacity and electrical supply are the two constraints that most often force a wider scope than expected. Sizing is annual tonnes divided by operating hours, plus 15–25% headroom.
Indicative Indian feed plant classes
| Metric | Value | Unit | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small commercial mill | 3–5 | t/h | Regional poultry or dairy producer |
| Mid integrator mill | 10–20 | t/h | Multi-farm poultry integration |
| Large / multi-line plant | 20–30+ | t/h | Integrated poultry or commercial toll milling |
| Conditioning steam | 55–70 | kg/t | Typical poultry mash conditioning demand |
| Pelleting energy | 10–20 | kWh/t | Recipe and die dependent |
