Aquafeed and pet food extrusion lines in Thailand — process equipment sourcing.

Thailand exports both shrimp feed technology and pet food, so buyers here specify at a higher process level than most markets. FeedMatch structures that specification and runs it across manufacturers on equal terms.

Export-grade requirements

Feed and pet food produced for export carry documentation, traceability and hygiene expectations that shape the equipment scope — CIP-friendly design, metal detection, sampling points and batch records. Put them in the RFQ; they are expensive to add after commissioning.

Drying is the hidden bottleneck

Most underperforming extrusion lines are dryer-limited, not extruder-limited. Specify dryer capacity at your worst-case moisture and product density, and ask for guaranteed throughput at that condition rather than at a nominal one.

Coating and palatability

Vacuum coating governs how much oil and how many palatants can be applied without surface migration. For pet food, coating and packaging often decide market acceptance more than the extruder brand does.

Raw materials

Fish meal, soy protein concentrate, wheat gluten and specialty additives set the recurring cost. FeedMatch prices those programmes alongside the equipment RFQ.

Short answer · reviewed August 2026

When is a twin-screw extruder justified over single-screw?

Twin-screw earns its cost when the plant runs high fat inclusion (above roughly 12–15% in-barrel), small shrimp pellet diameters, high moisture recipes, fresh-meat slurry in pet food, or frequent product changeovers. Single-screw remains the lower-capital choice for stable recipes and larger floating pellets. Decide on recipe variability and pellet size, then confirm the wear-part cost per tonne with each bidder.

Thailand project path

Thailand → Aquaculture & pet food → Extruded feed → Twin-screw extrusion → Coating & packaging → FeedMatch Group

FeedMatch is a supplier-neutral sourcing platform and does not manufacture equipment. Indicative project classes only — final pricing requires a technical specification and current supplier quotations. Project financing may be available subject to buyer, project, country and lender eligibility.

FAQ

Common questions

How much does an extrusion line cost in Thailand?
Capacity, screw configuration, drying capacity, coating and packaging define the figure. FeedMatch provides an indicative project class and runs current supplier quotations against your specification.
Can one line make both shrimp feed and pet food?
Technically possible at small scale, but hygiene zoning, changeover losses and very different pellet geometries usually make two dedicated lines cheaper per tonne.
What causes poor water stability in shrimp feed?
Under-grinding, insufficient binder or starch gelatinisation, over-fast drying and excessive surface oil are the usual causes. Grinding fineness and preconditioning are the first two things to audit.
Does FeedMatch manufacture extruders?
No. FeedMatch is a supplier-neutral sourcing platform connecting buyers with equipment manufacturers, suppliers and project partners.
