Feed mill growth planner

The plant works. The question is what is stopping it from producing more. This planner starts from your current tonnes per hour, your existing process line and your growth target, then structures the expansion, modernisation or automation scope into one commercial requirement that manufacturers can quote against.

FeedMatch Group is supplier-neutral. It does not manufacture, install or commission equipment. Nothing here is an engineering design, a price or a performance guarantee.

1. What are you trying to achieve?

2. Current operation

Potential production bottlenecks requiring technical capacity review

  • Grinding capacity at your finest screen
  • Batching and weighing cycle time
  • Mixer size and cycle time
  • Pelleting capacity at your smallest diameter
  • Cooling capacity at worst-case ambient conditions
  • Conveying and elevator transfer rates
  • Raw-material silo volume and separate bin count
  • Finished-feed buffer and dispatch rate
  • Electrical peak demand, transformer and backup power
  • Boiler output and steam quality at the conditioner
  • Intake and unloading rate
  • Dust extraction, ventilation and explosion protection
  • Building height, floor loading and layout
  • Packing, palletising and bulk load-out throughput

This is a scoping list, not a verdict. No stage of your plant is undersized on the basis of these inputs; each item needs measured throughput and engineering confirmation.

Not currently installed: Cleaning, Micro-dosing, Extrusion, Crumbling, Screening, Liquid addition, Coating, Palletising, Bulk loading. Where these are part of the target scope, they belong in the RFQ with capacity, interface and utility requirements stated.

Commercial feed project review

At an estimated investment of $500K–$1M, this is an integrated commercial project. The next step is a structured requirement that every manufacturer answers against the same scope.

Where this sits in the project

  1. 1Current tonnes per hour, measured rather than nameplate
  2. 2Target tonnes per hour and annual tonnage
  3. 3Capacity step quantified in the expansion calculator
  4. 4Limiting stage identified in the bottleneck calculator
  5. 5Storage, utilities and automation reviewed
  6. 6Growth planner consolidates the scope
  7. 7CAPEX drivers framed, without fixed pricing
  8. 8Commercial RFQ issued to relevant manufacturers

Questions buyers ask

How do I plan a feed mill expansion?
Start from measured production data, not from a machine list. Establish current effective tonnes per hour and the target, quantify the percentage step, identify the limiting stage, then confirm that storage, steam and electrical capacity can support the new rate. Only after that should equipment scope be fixed and quoted. This planner follows that order and produces a structured scope you can hand to manufacturers.
Does the planner tell me which equipment to buy?
No. It lists the systems that require a technical capacity review at your capacity step and structures the requirement. It never states that a specific machine is undersized, because that conclusion needs measured throughput, motor loads, air volumes and material-flow data.
Why does FeedMatch prioritise projects above USD 250,000?
Integrated plant projects — expansion, modernisation, automation, new lines — are where a structured, supplier-neutral RFQ changes the outcome. Smaller enquiries are served with the calculators, planning guides and reference content on this site rather than through the commercial project review.
Is FeedMatch the equipment manufacturer?
No. FeedMatch Group is an independent, supplier-neutral procurement platform. It does not manufacture, install or commission equipment, is not an EPC contractor and does not sell feed or ingredients. It helps commercial producers structure requirements and build manufacturer RFQs.

Planning tool only. FeedMatch Group does not manufacture, install or commission feed equipment, is not an EPC contractor and does not guarantee capacity, energy use, labour reduction or return on investment. All outputs require technical validation by the suppliers or engineers you appoint.
