Energy

  • Grinding and pelleting dominate electricity draw in compound feed; extrusion and drying dominate it in shrimp and pet feed lines.
  • Mexican industrial tariffs vary regionally and by demand charge structure — model peak demand, not only kWh, when comparing suppliers.
  • Ask for guaranteed kWh per tonne by section with defined test formulation and moisture.

Storage and silos

  • Import dependence means storage should be sized against vessel arrival intervals and discharge rate, with an explicit allowance for port delays.
  • Many import-fed Mexican mills plan three to six weeks of cover on principal ingredients; verify against your own supply contracts.
  • Model maize at roughly 0.72–0.76 t/m³ and soybean meal at roughly 0.60–0.65 t/m³, then confirm with your supplier's certificates.

Total cost of ownership

  • Compare installed cost plus energy, wear parts, maintenance labour and downtime over five and ten years.

If both product families are in scope, plan for separate lines or a clearly defined dual-line project — and state it in the RFQ so suppliers price the correct configuration.

How do NOM and SENASICA requirements affect the project?

SENASICA registration and NOM standards govern additives, medicated feed handling, labelling and mill hygiene. They affect segregation, cleaning sequences, dosing accuracy and documentation, so they belong in the technical specification. Resolve labelling and customs documentation before shipment rather than after arrival.
