RFQ timelines
How long does the FeedMatch RFQ review take?
Most requirements receive an initial acknowledgement within one business day. A full review — confirming specification completeness, volume, destination, certifications and project fit — typically takes 1–3 business days. Complex feed-mill or extrusion-line RFQs may take up to 5 business days because they require capacity, utility and layout clarification.
What happens after I submit a feed RFQ?
Your RFQ enters the buyer portal with status 'new', then moves to 'pending_review' while FeedMatch reads the requirement and asks any clarifying questions. Once the requirement is clear, the status advances to supplier research, invitation and offer review. Every stage is visible in your buyer dashboard.
Can I edit an RFQ after submitting it?
Yes, while the RFQ is in 'new' or 'pending_review'. Once it has been reviewed and sent to suppliers, the project is locked so that offers remain comparable. If requirements change after that point, you can add a note or start a follow-up RFQ.
How do I know when a supplier has responded?
The buyer dashboard and portal inbox show every status change, including supplier invite, quote received, offer sent to customer, and any request for more information. You also receive email notifications at key milestones if you opted in.
Supplier response expectations
When should I expect supplier responses?
Finished-feed and ingredient RFQs usually receive indicative offers within 5–10 business days after the requirement is confirmed. Feed-mill, extrusion-line and automation RFQs often need 10–20 business days because suppliers must check capacity, configuration, delivery and installation scope. Urgent deadlines should be stated clearly in the RFQ.
Why do some RFQs take longer to get responses?
Response time depends on specification clarity, volume, destination, Incoterm, required certifications, and whether the supplier must confirm raw-material or equipment availability. Incomplete specifications, missing destination details or unclear packaging cause delays because suppliers cannot price accurately.
Are supplier identities shown immediately?
No. Supplier identities are anonymised in early review stages. Once FeedMatch has verified the offer and both sides are ready to proceed, the supplier is named and a managed introduction is made. This protects buyers from premature solicitation and suppliers from speculative quoting.
What if no supplier responds to my RFQ?
FeedMatch will tell you explicitly if the requirement is too narrow, the volume too small, the destination hard to serve, or the specification unclear. You can then adjust the RFQ, expand the region, change the Incoterm, or split the requirement into phases.
Can I negotiate directly with a supplier through the portal?
Not automatically. FeedMatch handles the first comparison and introduction. Negotiation support is available on a managed basis; the platform does not open unfiltered buyer-supplier chat to protect both parties and keep offers comparable.

When should I use the feed-mill planning route instead of finished-feed sourcing?
Use feed-mill planning when you are sizing, buying or upgrading a feed mill, extrusion line, grinding line, batching system, pelleting line, drying/cooling system, packaging or automation. Use finished-feed sourcing when you want to buy compound feed, premix, additives or bulk ingredients for an existing farm or integrator.
What capacity information do I need before requesting feed-mill quotes?
State target capacity in tonnes per hour or tonnes per year, the mash-to-pellet split, species and formulas, pellet diameters, number of shifts, and whether the figure is nameplate, guaranteed or average. Also clarify if the figure refers to one line or the whole plant.
How important is raw-material intake and storage in feed-mill planning?
Very. Intake method (bulk truck, rail, bag, ship), receiving capacity, cleaning, drying and silo capacity often determine the real throughput of the mill. A pellet line that is sized correctly can still be constrained by slow intake or insufficient storage.
Should I ask for a turnkey mill or supply-only equipment?
That depends on your internal engineering, civil and installation resources. Turnkey reduces interface risk but costs more. Supply-only gives flexibility but requires your team to manage civil, mechanical, electrical and commissioning interfaces. State your preferred scope in the RFQ.
What is the difference between pelleting and extrusion in feed-mill procurement?
Pelleting presses mash through a die to form pellets and is common for poultry, cattle and pig feed. Extrusion cooks the mash under moisture, heat and pressure and is used for floating and sinking aquafeed, pet food and some high-value feeds. The equipment, utilities, building height and energy demand are different.
Do I need automation and traceability from day one?
Not necessarily, but it is harder and more expensive to retrofit later. State the required batching accuracy, lot traceability, recipe management and reporting needs in the RFQ. Even a manual mill can be designed with future automation in mind.
How are feed-mill CAPEX and OPEX estimated?

Procurement teams, farms, integrators, feed mills, aquaculture operations, NGOs and institutional buyers. You need a free buyer account with a work email and company name. The portal is designed for serious commercial projects, typically USD $250,000 and above.
Is there a cost to use the buyer portal?
Submitting RFQs and tracking status is free for registered buyers. FeedMatch earns from managed procurement services, not from charging buyers to submit requests.
