Feed business registration or approval; feed hygiene; conditions for imports from third countries

Feed business operators must be registered, and certain activities approved, by the competent authority, and apply the hygiene requirements. Importers of feed from third countries must ensure the third country and the establishment of dispatch are listed and that the feed meets EU feed rules or recognised equivalent conditions (Article 23); interim import conditions apply where the lists have not been drawn up (Article 24).

Medicated feed and intermediate products: approved manufacturers and veterinary prescription

Feed business operators manufacturing, storing, transporting or placing on the market medicated feed and intermediate products must be approved; supply to animal keepers requires a veterinary prescription for medicated feed. Medicated feed containing antimicrobials may not be used for prophylaxis or to enhance performance, and its use for metaphylaxis is limited.
